1. Describe the time and place in which your novel is set. What clues within the book tell us this?
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens was a unuasal book because it was hard it told the reader nothing about the time it was set in. I think it is set in the late 1800's because there was no cars and everyone dressed in olderen day clothes.
They time and place is now and it's very modern. The place they go into is very old and dated. The clues that tell me that it is very modern is all the things they have and all the things they use.
2. Who are the main characters in your book? List the names and a short description of their personality traits.
Oliver- The orphan boy
Fagin- the head pocket thief
Bill Sykes- A professional theif and muderer
Harley- skinny amd tall and he loves books. He can be shy at times but he is over all happy but shy at the same time. Jodie- quickyand weird and she loves to have fun. She sometimes gets on people's nerves and can get a bit annoying but she is exactly what Pearl loves in her. Pearl- shy and quiet and loves to read books like Harley. She is the extremely shy one who doesn't enjoy being put front and centre but she and Harley and exactly down to earth people.
3. Describe the significant relationships between the main characters.
There is a relationship between Oliver and Mr Brownlow. They have a mutual
relationship that is very kind and caring. They have great respect for each other
and trust each other with anything. They are very loving to each other and they are not mean or ignoren
t to each other and respect their personal space.
There is also a relationship between Oliver and Fagin. It is a very brutual and harsh
relationship that has no loving care to one another. Fagin is always
forcing Oliver to do things that Oliver is not comfortable with.
There is a strong relationship between Jodie and Pearl because they are sisters and best friends. They tell eachother everything and have no secrets apart from the fact that Pearl might have a crush on Harley. Pearl only feels comfortable talking to Jodie all because they are the best of friends.
The is a relationship with Harley and Pearl because they have common likes and they seem to be quite fond of each other. They both like to read books and watch the badgers in the forest together. Considering it is written in Pearl's point of view, she explains that she might even have a crush on Harley even though he is alot older and taller then she is. Even if they enjoy eachothers company, doesn't mean they don't have any arguements when Harley makes fun of Jodie and Pearl gets upset and walks of storngly.
The relationship between Harley and Jodie is very tense and aggresive. Jodie really like Harley that much because she thinks he's Mr. Know-it-all and he's too boring to be a friend. Although she tries tp be friends with him, Harley descides to decline her friend request, he still can talk to her and tell her what not to do and what is right.
4. Who is your favourite character and why? Or - Who is the character that you can most closely relate to and why?
My favourite caracter was Nancy because she was kind and respectful for Oliver. SHe wasn't allowed to
complain otherwise she would get a punishment by Fagin and Sykes.
She helped Oliver survive through the mess with Fagin and Sykes. She was a key caracter in the book.
My favourite caracter is Jodie because she is very outgoing and ready to do anyting she can.
She is not afraid of the dark and she is willing to do anything. She hardly cries ever and never says never! She is a birlliant role model when it comes to trying new things but not when she gets in trouble for doing it. Although nobody really like sher a school except for Pearl, she just shrugs it off and gets on with life.
5. Describe the style of language and literary devices that the author uses. a) Find examples of; colourful adjectives, similes, metaphor, dramatic irony, etc.. b) Find a quote (with page number) for each example.
the style of language in the book is very modern and doesn't have any words that people don't use anymore
. You can tell that this book was published very recently because of the language.
Colourful adjectives:
Skimpy Sweatshirt
Gangly Boy
Perfectly civil
Cheeky little squirt
Alarmingly dead
6. Is your book an example of ‘classic’ or ‘modern’ literature? You must use evidence to back up your stance. For example; has your book stood the ‘test of time’? Are there theme’s that will transcend time?
my book is a classic book for sure because is has stood the test of time and become a favourite by many.
It is a classic because it's a book that really has a story that pulls you into it. Then they made it into a movie
and that got it noticed and people wanted toread the book.
It is a modern book because it doesn't have any sign of a classic in it because it's not that popular and well known. The theme is very modern and is set in our time which makes it not quite a classic.
7. After reading the book, write a short note to a friend describing the book. Include a description of the genre, setting and difficulty level. You need to also include the following information; What were the main themes in the book? What was the central conflict? How was it resolved? Describe your feelings towards the novel. Did you enjoy it, why or why not? Did you find it easy to get into? Did you like it the more that you read it? Would you read more books by the same author, or of a similar genre?

Genre: Drama Setting: 1800's in the UK ; dark and droopy Difficulty: Very Easy; simple words with occaisonal long words
My feelings towards the book: I think the book is a very well written and very dramatic book because it has got so much intensity. It makes you feel as if you were really Oliver and you were in that situation.
Did I enjoy it?: Yes I did because it made you want to read on and on and on untill you finish the book. You never know what's going to happen next or where Oliver is going to be taken to. Did you find it easy to get into?: I did because I have always loved the story so it was quite easy to figure out what was going on. Was really easy to follow and remember things because it's such a well known story that you almost know whats around the corner. Would you read more books by the same author or of a similar genre?: I would proboly read a book from a similar genre because i think the type of stories are very emotive and dramatic and those are some things that interest me.
Desription: My sister Jodie is about two sisters, Pearl and Jodie, who are icceprable. They are eachothers best friend and they have no secrets between them. One day their parents decide to work at Melchester Collage which means they have to go toschool there and live there. At first it was a big surprise to the girls but they meet new people such as Harley and all their new teachers and spome of their classmates. Once term starts Pearl ajusts to her new class and makes new friends but Jodie isn't at all. She was getting picked on because of her quirkyness and confidence and she wasn't paying attention in class. Then of the firwork day, Jodie desides to go up in one of the "haunted tower" and stands in the window in a white vail. all the little kids were getting terrified so she took of her vail and came closer to the ledge and said it was only her. Then she fell a few floors and landed on the ground. Jodie was dead. Pearl was just too upset about it that they had to move away from Melchester Collage because of the awful memoris from that place. A few years later, Pearl's parents have another baby, May. Pearl wants her to be just like Jodie and it's too soon to tell. The genre in this book would probaly be Dramatic, Comedy, and the setting is very modern and today. The difficulty level would be very easy to read because it doesn't have very hard words to understand.
My feelings towards the book was very sad. I even cried at the end because it really touched me when Pearl was saying how much Jodie meant to her and how much she needed her.
I did enjoy this book because it draws you in by lots of excitement between Jodie and Jed and Harly and Pearl. It interesting because Pearl likes Harley and they have a interesting relationship.
The more i read into it, the more I wanted to read on because it had some much action.
I was definity read more books by Jacqeline Wilson because it's very easy to understand and it's really interesting. She really is a great author because she rights books that are very realistic.
OLIVER TWIST!!!!!
I think Oliver Twist is going to be about a boy called Oliver who has been left by himself by his mother who passed away in
childbirth, and is put into an orphanage and has been no use to the owner of the workhouse. Then he gets put in all these different places
and he is never happy in any place that he goes. Then he runs away to London and meets a nice boy around his age who takes him to a happy and friendly place but
he finds out that the perosn who is feeding him is actually really mean and nasty and a mastermind criminal. Then he finally
finds a happy

home and he's real identity and enough money for a living.
_ Scene desciption!!! The setting description is a very untrusted, nasty place where no one smiles. Where mostly everyone is unhappy about how much they earn and no one is appreciated. The place is where all the clothes line are swooping through the lines of houses on the street and it is cold, dusty and sad. There is no fun or life to the street that Oliver was in and there was no happy energy going from everyone. In this scene, there are the wealthy people who stride along happy and healthy but there are the unhappy and lonely people who haven't got enough to feed their family, and don't earn the closest amount of money to the wealthy people. There is no bright light and sad birds swiping around the sky looking down on everyone. Bibliographical Details: Dickens, C, 1989, Oliver Twist, New York, New York __
